
Dr. L. Subramaniam
Dr. L. Subramaniam, a globally revered violin virtuoso and among the world’s leading authority on Indian classical music, has performed for more than 65 years, written and created works for the world’s greatest orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic; Kirov Ballet; London Symphony and London Philharmonic Orchestras. He is the founder/director of the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival (along with Viji Subramaniam), the biggest global music festival in India. Since 1992 the Festival has featured over 1,000 artists from around the globe and has been held in over 25 countries across 5 continents. He has received several awards and honours, including the coveted Padma Vibhushan in 2025 and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for “The Most Creative Artist”. Dr. Subramaniam was the musical advisor to Peter Brook’s historical theatre production of the Mahabharata. He has composed music for select films, including Salaam Bombay, Mississippi Masala, and Gaur Hari Dastaan and he was the featured soloist for Bernardo Bertolucci’s Little Buddha and for Cotton Mary of Merchant–Ivory Productions.
